High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) as a Key Tool in Modern Analytical Chemistry
A scientific seminar dedicated to High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) was organized at the Institute of the Chemistry of Plant Substances with the aim of enhancing young researchers’ familiarity with advanced analytical instrumentation and strengthening their scientific competencies.
The seminar focused on the fundamental principles and practical applications of HPLC, one of the most essential instrumental techniques in modern analytical chemistry. Young scientists, trainee researchers, and doctoral candidates of the Institute actively participated in the event.
During the seminar, Senior Researcher, Candidate of Chemical Sciences Rasul Ya. Okmanov delivered an in-depth presentation on the theoretical foundations of HPLC, including separation mechanisms based on partitioning between stationary and mobile phases, adsorption, and ion-exchange processes. In addition, various detection systems such as UV-Vis, fluorescence, and hyphenated techniques (e.g., LC–MS) were comprehensively discussed.
Particular emphasis was placed on the scientific significance of HPLC. It was highlighted that this technique provides high sensitivity, selectivity, and reproducibility in the separation, identification, and quantitative analysis of biologically active compounds from complex natural matrices. HPLC is widely recognized as an indispensable method in pharmaceutical analysis, biotechnology, food safety, environmental monitoring, and natural product chemistry.
The seminar also covered practical aspects, including instrument operation, column selection criteria, optimization of mobile phases, and gradient elution strategies. The session was conducted in an interactive format, with active discussions and detailed responses to participants’ questions.
This seminar represents an important step toward equipping young researchers with advanced analytical methodologies and enhancing their ability to apply high-precision instrumental techniques in their future scientific investigations.
